Interesting Facts about Hawksbill Sea Turtles
Did you know that the younger hawksbill turtles are unable to dive deep? Young turtles also have a heartshaped upper shell. They have two visible claws on each flipper. Hawksbill sea turtle is the only species in its genus. This species of turtles is currently endangered. Despite the protection they receive from their hard shells, these turtles fall prey to large fish, crocodiles, sharks, octopuses and of course humans. Their food include jellyfish, seagrasses, sponges, mollusks, crustaecens, sea urchins etc. They lay a clutch of 140 eggs. These eggs hatch at night after about two months time. Hawksbill turtles normally take about 30 or more years to reach adulthood. |
