Interesting Facts about Green Sea Turtles

They have an average lifespan of over 80 years in the wild.

They are one of the largest sea turtles in the world.

They can reach a carapace length of up to 5 feet and can weigh up to about 700 pounds.

These turtles are currently endangered.

It can not pull its head into its shell. This trait is common among all sea turtles.

 

 

They can sleep underwater for several hours but while they are active, they should breathe every few minutes to stay alive.

They lay a clutch of 100 to 200 eggs which hatch after about two months.

Did you know that adult green sea turtles are herbivores? Most sea turtles are not herbivores and even green turtle's juveniles will also eat invertebrates like crabs and jellyfish.

Male green turtles are larger than the femles and have a longer tail. This difference between the size of male and female turtles is really small.

They can stay underwater for 4 to 5 minutes and will only surface for 1 to 3 seconds to breathe.
