Facts about White-fronted Amazons
The White-fronted Amazon is also known as the White-fronted Parrot and Spectacled Amazon Parrot or simply Spectacled Amazon. It is in fact a Central American species of parrot. They can imitate a range from 30 to 40 different sounds. This species is named for the bright white patch of feathers on their foreheads. The White-fronted Amazon has a long life span, usually around 50 years. They are mostly seen in flocks of 20 birds. The White-fronted Amazon is a small Amazon parrot attaining a length of just about 25 cm (10 in). They have mostly green plumage with some blue colouring on their outspread wings. Their breeding season is usually in the spring, starting in February and ending in the summer (in June and July in most areas). Female White-fronted Amazons lay a clutch of three to four white eggs. Their eggs are incubated for about 24 to 26 days. They have bright red coloring around their eyes (in some individuals almost like spectacles). Its scientific name is Amazona albifrons. |
