Interesting Facts about Raccoons

Raccoons live for about two to three years in the wild.

They weigh from 4 to 23 pounds and grow about 60 to 95 cm in length.

Raccoons are very adaptable feeders and they will eat almost anything.

They sometimes wash their food before eating. This is done by rapidly dunking the food in water.

They have a great sense of touch.

In a study conducted in 1908 by H. B. Davis, raccoons were able to open 11 of 13 complex locks in less than 10 tries and had no problems repeating the action when the locks were rearranged or turned upside down.

They produce a litre of two to five young after a gestation period of 63 to 65 days.
