South America is the fourth largest continent according to the area.

São Paulo, Brazil, whose population is nearly 10,000,000, is the largest city of South America and one of the fastest growing cities of its size in the world.

Geologic studies in South America have supported the theory of continental drift quite strongly and have shown that until 135 million years ago South America was joined to the continent Africa.
