Facts about Lemons
It is native to Mexico and Central America, northern South America, parts of the Caribbean and some parts of North Africa. A single guava contains over four times the amount of vitamin C as a single orange (228 mg per 100 g serving). Numerous references in medical research identify guava as Psidium guajava. Guavas are often considered superfruits, being rich in vitamins A and C, omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (mainly in the seeds which must be chewed to obtain the omega fats) and especially high levels of dietary fiber. Guava has good levels of the dietary minerals, potassium, magnesium. 100 g of edible portion of guava contains 36-50 calories, 9.5 to 10 grams of carbohydrates and 0.1 to 0.5 grams of fat. 100 g of edible portion of guava contains 0.9 to 1.0 g protein, 37 to 400 mg vitamin C, 200 to 400 IU vitamin A and 0.30 to 0.70 grams of iron. Nutritional value of guava varies greatly in different guava species, the strawberry guava notably containing only 37 mg of vitamin C per 100g serving, practically a tenth of the vitamin C found in more common varieties. |
