Facts about Nike
Nike is named after the Greek goddess of victory. There are two founders of Nike: Bill Bowerman, the legendary University of Oregon track & field coach, and Phil Knight, a University of Oregon business student and middle-distance runner under Bowerman. The long-lived business partnership began in January 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). First-year sales totaled $8,000. In 1972, BRS introduced a new brand of athletic footwear called Nike. Nike employs approximately 25,000 people worldwide. In addition, approximately 650,000 workers are employed in Nike contracted factories around the globe. |
